El doctor Ariel ha fundado una institución altruista cuya misión consiste en proporcionar consuelo, ilusión y alegría a las personas desesperadas.

A las oficinas de esta extraña organización acude un día el anciano señor Balboa en busca de auxilio. Él y su mujer criaron a un nieto huérfano, a quien consintieron demasiado, que incluso roba a sus propios abuelos. Una noche, tras sorprenderlo forzando el cajón del escritorio, el abuelo lo echa de la casa. De esto hacía ya veinte años; nunca regresó.
