El Paraninfo acoge la primera edición del Festival Internacional de Cine Fantástico de Gijón/Xixón (FantasticGijón). Algunas de las sesiones también tendrán lugar en el Centro Municipal Intergrado de El Llano y en el Autocine, y el programa se completa con la sala de escape 'Terror en las antiguas cocinas' del 18 al 24 de octubre en la propia Laboral.

Este certamen nace con la ilusión de llenar un espacio que considera vacío en Asturias: dar cabida a producciones nacionales e internacionales de los géneros de terror, fantástico y ciencia ficción que tienen menos posibilidades de llegar a proyectarse en el marco de la programación del resto de festivales de la comunidad.
