Beatriz, una mujer atormentada por toda clase de supersticiones pide a una adivinadora que le lea los posos del café. La adivinadora le comunica que le queda una semana de vida. La muerte anunciada de Beatriz la obliga a pensar en su marido, piensa que no es lo suficientemente espabilado para buscar a otra mujer que le convenga y ante estas dudas decide buscarla ella antes de fallecer. Beatriz busca la ayuda de Toño, su hermano, y entre los dos buscan una chica para trabajar en las labores de la casa con la intención de que Nando se fije en ella y surja el amor.
Los celos se desatan, Beatriz no puede ver a Nando y la criada juntos, con lo cual sus buenas intenciones se van al traste mientras los espectadores van de carcajada en carcajada.
