Este divertidísimo esperpento retrata una España de principios del siglo XX en la que Valle critica los prejuicios morales de la pérdida del honor por 'los cuernos'; por eso pretende, y logra con suma ironía, burlarse de sus personajes y de sus comportamientos de folletín sainetero, en una parodia satírica sin precedentes, que provoca risas crueles y desatadas sobre la tradición machista de los españoles.
