Ford optó por rodar en blanco y negro y en estudio esta gran obra maestra. La ausencia de exteriores la suplió con la arrolladora presencia de dos superestrellas que pasaban por su mejor momento profesional: su actor fetiche, John Wayne, en su sempiterno papel de tipo duro pero tierno en el fondo; y James Stewart, como su contrapunto ideal, dando vida a un hombre de paz, pero tan firme en sus ideales que está dispuesto a morir por ellos.

Frente a ambos, un Lee Marvin que, gracias al papel de Liberty Valance, logró dejar atrás diez años como eterno secundario para convertirse por fin en una gran estrella de Hollywood. Toda una magistral lección de cine, entretenida y apasionante.
