Khaled, un joven refugiado sirio, llega a Helsinki por accidente después de subir a bordo de un carguero de carbón cuando intentaba escapar de sus violentos agresores. Su solicitud de asilo es rechazada y su apariencia sucia y descuidada no le favorece a la hora de buscar un lugar donde dormir en la ciudad. El joven está perdido en un país desconocido, pero Wikhström, el propietario de un restaurante, podría ayudar a mejorar su situación.
