Ambientada en la Irlanda de mediados de los noventa, Eddie y Amber deciden fingir una relación para evitar que todos especulen sobre su orientación sexual. Eddie está ansioso por entrar en el Ejército como su padre, mientras que Amber sueña con mudarse al centro liberal de Londres.

Sin embargo, su arreglo 'ideal' comienza a desmoronarse, lo que obliga a Eddie a profundizar en su propia negación. Es entonces cuando Amber se da cuenta del peligroso futuro que le espera a su mejor amigo si ella no interviene.
