El festival de artes escénicas para el público familiar CAFCA* (Cultura, Arte, Familia, Ciudad Abierta) nace para ofrecer experiencias culturales diferentes a todos los públicos. Las tres coordenadas que definen esta nueva iniciativa son la expresión artística alternativa (disciplinas experimentales), para todos los públicos (evitando lo específicamente infantil y orientándose hacia lenguajes universales disfrutables tanto por adultos como por niños) y de calle (porque aunque se utilizan escenarios convencionales también se trata de salir de los espacios habituales de la actividad cultural y artística para plantear una reflexión sobre otras formas de relacionarse con el espacio público).

Los escenarios de CAFCA* se reparten por toda la ciudad, con la Fábrica de Armas de La Vega como principal campo de operaciones, pero abarcando también el parque de Santuyano, la Escandalera, el Oviedo Antiguo/Uviéu Antiguu o el Teatro de Pumarín. Todas las actividades son gratuitas, con aforos muy limitados, entre 15 y 120 espectadores por espectáculo, y para acceder a las actividades es necesaria inscripción previa.
